Text on path

Text can be applied to a path or preset shape so that it can be curved and fitted.

1. Create a path or shape to which the text will be applied.
2. Create your text in a standard text box.
3. Select both the text box and the shape or path.
4. Click Modify > Path > Attach text to path.

You can also click a path with the Text tool. When hovering over a path with the Text tool, and when you see a pink outline, click. The text starts from the point where you clicked:

You can drag the orange anchor to move the text along the path:

Text on a path is selected, it has unique properties on the Appearance panel:

By default, text is positioned on the outside of the path. The Outside setting changes it to the inside.

The Reverse setting changes the direction of the attached path.

Distance sets the distance of the text from the path. It can be a negative value.

You can detach text from a path using Modify > Path > Detach text from path, which is  also accessible from the contextual menu.
